Summary

Mutual funds are booming. More than half of all personal investors in the US own some sort of mutual fund and have a significant (and growing) percentage of their assets invested in them. Demand continues to increase as fewer companies offer pension plans and investors build their nest eggs via 401(k) plans and IRAs. To finance their kids’ educations, consumers are also turning to 529 college savings plans, which are heavily invested in mutual funds.
